Larry Wight wins three straight All-Tech DIRT modified features

Larry Wight wins three straight All-Tech DIRT modified features

DIRT big-block modified driver Larry Wight ran 65 programs in 2025, but the Gypsum Express pilot won just one feature race.

But during the off-season, this Fulton racer found an unused, 2021 Bicknell-built modified chassis and his Gypsum crew got it ready for 2026. Wight rolled his new ride out on the All-Tech Speedway last Thursday for a three-race series, and on opening night he came from fourth to the lead in just one lap as he cruised to the $5,000 victory.

Mat Williamson, Matt Sheppard, Alex Payne, and Darren Smith followed Wight to the checkered flag.

Jessica Power of Kingston, Ontario, picked up a $2,000 check for winning the sportsman main event.

Friday night, Wight had battery problems and had to start dead last in 24th in the 40-lap feature. But Wight easily raced up through the field and squeezed past Matt Sheppard for the top spot with three laps remaining in the race.

Stewart Friesen, Darren Smith, and Mat Williamson filled out the top five. Fulton’s Richard Murtaugh won the sportsman feature.

Saturday’s All-Tech finale saw Wight complete his three-race sweep, with Tanner Von Doren, Rick Laubach, Matt Sheppard, and Jimmy Phelps following.

When asked about his All-Tech success. Wight credited his 2021 Bicknell chassis. “That car was built with pre-Covid steel and seems to be more solid, and it suits my driving style better,” said Wight. His winning modified was powered by a Chevrolet big-block motor from Gypsum’s new WLR Performance Engine shop.

NASCAR Modified Tour

The NASCAR Modified Tour opened its sixteen-race 2026 season Saturday night with a 200-lap race at the New Smyrna Speedway.

A solid field of 37 cars was on hand, and 32 qualified for the main event. Long Island’s Justin Bonsignore won the pole and led in the early going along with Austin Beers and Ryan Preece. But Bonsignore got the lead for good in a late pitting shuffle, and he held off Tyler Repkema in overtime for the $17,300 win.

Defending Tour champion Austin Beers was third, with Patrick Emerling, Craig Lutz, Trevor Catalano, Jon McKennedy, Eric Goodale, Ryan Preece, and Ryan Newman filling out the top ten finishers.

World of Outlaws Sprint Tour

The World of Outlaws Sprint tour opened its 2026 season with a four-race series at the Volusia Speedway outside of Daytona.

Wednesday’s opener started with 44 WoO 410 sprint cars on hand, and Spencer Bayston came away with the win, with Carson Macedo, Michael Kofoid, Donny Schatz and Anthony Macri following.

After Thursday’s show was rained out, Michael Kofoid took Friday’s feature, followed by David Gravel, Carson, Macedo, Logan Schuscart and Anthony Macri.

Saturday night’s finale saw Anthony Macri get the win ahead of Gravel, Macedo, Kofoid, and Brian Brown.
