Saginaw Township breast cancer screening event features 3D mammography tech

SAGINAW TOWNSHIP, MI — MyMichigan Medical Center Towne Centre will host a special breast cancer screening event on Tuesday, Oct. 21, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., featuring extended mammogram hours and giveaways for participants.

The event will take place at MyMichigan Medical Towne Centre, located at 4599 Towne Centre in Saginaw Township.

MyMichigan Medical Towne Centre is a facility within the network of MyMichigan Health, a Midland-based health care agency.

“It is important that women, beginning at the age of 40, get their annual mammogram,” Amy Slough, a registered nurse and breast nurse navigator with MyMichigan Health, said in a statement. “We are offering special screening times to offer women a more convenient time to schedule their mammogram, and all our mammograms use 3D technology.”

The facility uses 3D mammography technology, which allows radiologists to view breast tissue layer by layer, providing multiple slices through the breast tissue similar to flipping through pages of a book. This advanced technology can detect breast cancer at earlier stages, which helps reduce breast cancer death rates, organizers said.

MyMichigan Health officials said yearly mammograms are recommended because they are the only test proven to reduce breast cancer deaths. Early detection through mammograms can improve survival odds and help patients avoid extensive treatment by catching cancer when it’s most treatable.

Appointments are required for mammogram screenings.

Women interested in scheduling can call the MyMichigan Access Center at 989-633-5252.

A provider’s order is needed, and insurance will be billed for the mammogram.
